Built to fix something
broken.A short history of why Epione exists, how the model works, and who's building it.
Healthcare shouldn't be this hard to hold together.
Across Africa, good care too often means starting from scratch at every door: a GP who doesn't see your test results, a specialist who doesn't see your GP's notes, a pharmacy that doesn't know what either of them prescribed. Epione Health Villages exists to close those gaps: driving equitable access to inclusive, tech-enabled healthcare, built around the patient rather than around the paperwork.
Founded in 2016, Epione is a partnership between clinicians and healthcare operators to establish, own and operate tech-enabled healthcare facilities across primary care and day hospitals. Its mission is to enable clinicians to meet our patients' needs, with a vision to become the largest integrated healthcare provider in Africa.
Built to replicate, not just to open once.
What actually makes it a Village.
“Village” isn't just a name for the building. It's how the people inside it work.
Designed to feel like part of the neighbourhood, not a hospital.
Every Village is uniquely designed, built and furnished using local artisans, so it feels less like a waiting room and more like somewhere you'd want to be.
Inside a Village: the entrance corridor
Reception and treatment areaA green Village, not just a healthy one.
Sustainability is part of how each Village is run, not an afterthought: from what we buy, to what we recycle, to how we use energy.
Less single-use plasticReducing single-use plastics across each Village, with recycling built into daily operations rather than left to individual effort.Energy-efficient by designLED lighting and smart energy monitoring across our facilities, built in from the first fit-out rather than retrofitted later.Held to it, continuouslyGreen procurement and regular environmental audits, so sustainable practice stays a habit for our staff and patients, not a one-off pledge. The team behind the Village.
